Solution for yesterday’s problem

Let the basic salary of A and B be x and y respectively.

A’s total emoluments = x+.65x = 1.65x

B’s total emoluments = y+.80y = 1.80y

By supposition, 1.65x = 1.80y

x/y = 1.80/1.65 = 12/11

Fastrac method

x/y = 100+y’s allowances as percentage of basic salary/100+x’s allowances as percentage of basic salary

x/y = 180/165 = 12/11

Today’s problem

A shopkeeper sells two radios at $1540 each. On radio ‘A’ he gains 10% and on radio ‘B’ he loses 10%. What is the ratio of the cost price of radio A to radio B?
